Goal

Students will construct and manage a realistic site that demonstrates:

  • Use of good page design principles for optimal usability
  • Site design and architecture principles
  • Good planning and project management techniques
  • Dynamic content

Due Date

Beginning of Session 2 of Week 15

Grading of Presentations/Projects

40 points - Peer Input/Critique Ranking/Presentation
70 points - Site Project Proposal
90 points - Web site architecture, design and implementation

Team Construction

Teams must have at least 3 people and no more than 6 persons. To form a team, talk with your classmates, or you may want to post a message on the CSC96B discussion web page. It is assumed that team will take on the responsibility for meeting outside of class. Team members can use the widely available free tools at home to build their parts of the project.

Deliverables

1. Site Project Proposal Report in HTML format on project web site. Report should include:

      Report format should be in HTML on web site as a page(s)

2. Web site on the class Web server

The project web site should include the following features: (some may be on the same page)

  • E-mail based form
  • Dynamic content based on complex criteria (at least 1 selectable) resulting in multiple output/result formats
  • Sub-part of the site with a rigid directory or page structure (i.e. Sequentially numbered, magazine style, or the MS KB style)
  • Use a linked style sheet for some or all of the site
  • Large narrative block formatted for ease of reading
  • All pages can be meaningfully rendered by ALL web browsers
  • Site Map or Index Page
  • Site Search Feature(s)
  • Downloadable content (via FTP)
  • Personalization or User Profile (in week 10 lab)
  • Consistent site navigation scheme
  • Consistent look and feel to the pages
  • Discussion Group or other on-line community building feature

Database connectivity

Students may use the provided database structure or may request a custom schema.
